Survey and Installation process:

Your Veranda installation will be fulfilled by our award winning team with care and attention in a way that only we can. Throughout the process you will be provided with a dedicated point of contact who will be just a phone call away should you require assistance at any point:

Stage 1: Once the order is placed and payment has been received you will automatically receive a copy of your invoice and our conditions of sale.

Stage 2: We will then send a ‘welcome pack’ to the installation address provided which will provide you with a unique order number for your reference.

Stage 3: Once the statutory cooling off period has ended we will contact you to conduct a technical survey to ensure the products selected are suitable for your installation. This will normally be done in person but may be conducted via photographs and phone calls if the installation is straightforward.

Stage 4: We will order all your component parts and ensure we have all materials required to carry out your installation.

Stage 5: We will call you to discuss an installation date that suits your requirements.

Stage 6: Our installation team will arrive to take care of your installation.

Lead times do fluctuate throughout the year and can be affected by the complexity of each project - however, in general we aim to install within 8 weeks from the point of technical survey. What is the difference between a terrace canopy, glass room, conservatory and veranda?

A Veranda and Terrace Canopy are two words implying the same thing; An extension to a house covering an outside area. Or a roof supported by two posts, made of aluminium with a polycarbonate roofing.

A glass room refers to an 'uninsulated' house extension in the shape of a terrace canopy or veranda equipped with (glass) (sliding) doors so that the area can be fully closed. Architecturally, a glass room is not part of the house.

A glass room looks like a conservatory, but the main differences is that a conservatory refers to an insulated extension of the house. So this is an actual part of a house, making it more expensive and complicated to buy and install a conservatory.

Do you need planning permissions for a Veranda Glass Room?

You will only need planning permission if your Veranda Glass Room is over 3m in height, or is located on the roof of your home or it will be larger than 50% of the land that the original house covers.

Adding a glass door system to an existing canopy at a later moment is no problem at all.

How to maintain your Veranda?

A Veranda requires little maintenance. We do recommend however to clean the Veranda about twice a year. In addition to the fact that your Veranda looks better without dirt, it also increases the lifespan of the Veranda.

When cleaning your Veranda, we recommend using a sponge or a soft cloth. You can easily clean the aluminium frame with water and a neutral soap.

The polycarbonate roofing can be cleaned in the same way, but be extra careful. Don't forget to frequently keep the gutter free from leaves and dirt to prevent the water drain from getting clogged.

Will a veranda add value to your home?

What will the maximum height of the installation be? And will this mean we do not need planning permission?

The full height of most of our Veranda Glass Rooms is likely to be approximately 2.7m at its highest point. This is well within the 3m height you are allowed to use up in your permitted development rights.

Will a silicone seal be applied between the veranda and the house?

Yes we do provide a silicone seal where required e.g. where the side frames touch the house walls. The main reason for these seals is to ensure the finish is aesthetically pleasing. It's rare for a house wall to be perfectly straight so it's important to use a seal which takes up the small gaps between the wall and the aluminium frames. The seals will help to keep draughts out too however it's beneficial from a ventilation point of view for these spaces not to be completely sealed.

How much of a lip on the ground is there on Veranda Glass Rooms to avoid water coming in?

The lip under the sliding doors is approximately 25mm tall, with a requirement that the track which the doors sit on must be level. In most instances the patio that we are bolting onto is not perfectly level. The first step is to effectively pack and raise the track in any low areas of the patio base to ensure you get a decent level of protection from water running into the veranda. We then apply a trim over this packaging to ensure it looks ascetically pleasing. It is common for a patio to intentionally slope with a fall way from the home to the garden.

Is it possible to get a digital visual mock up of my proposed Veranda Glass Room in position?

Yes, we can do this using our conservatory design software (which we are currently developing). It will give you a good impression & help you to visualise the space - but it's not 100% true to life unfortunately .

How long is the product warranty for the Veranda Glass Rooms?

We guarantee all verandas for 5 years. This includes all product & workmanship and is also insurance backed. Meaning that if anything was to happen to our company within the 5 year guarantee period - and you needed our help with anything - the 'Homepro' insurance policy would kick in and they would find another company who could rectify the problem at no expense to you. Please note that the only thing we do not guarantee is broken glass. This is true for all of our products (Windows, doors, etc) as we can't be held responsible for glass being broken after we leave the site.

What would be the plan for if any part of my property is damaged during installation?

Naturally we have all the statutory liability insurance in place as you'd expect. The reality is that we work in and around approximately 25 homes per week - and have done so for over 40 years. Sometimes things do go wrong and we always endeavour to put it right.

What an experience. We ordered 11 windows from Finesse including a bay roof and some plastering. After getting quotes from several companies we choose Finesse because we thought they're a local company with a good product. They're quote was around £3k more than Amber. They started the installation mid August and estimated it'd take 3 days. The job was finished on October 30th (2.5 months). It took longer than expected for several reasons. The first was the bay roof had to be redone. The lead work was horrendous and the roof had no pitch so became a huge puddle (photos attached). Initially, they said this was normal and some pooling was expected. Shockingly we overheard the installers saying "I've never done one of these before", "Well it only has to last 6 months and we're ok". To be fair, after some complaining, Finesse completely redid the roof and admitted it was wrong. The first installers also refused to fit the lintel above the kitchen window and I quote "that's a builders job not our job". To make it easier, Finesse then offered £150 discount to change the angle iron to a flat steel which we agreed. Then when installing the flat steel lintel, the lintel was tied into the brickwork and was cut to the size of the window frame (see photo). Whilst strengthening the frame, it didn't take the weight of the bricks above. They knocked off another £50 but still insist "the lintel is fitted properly and this is how we always fit lintels". Two of the windows were too big in the frame and either are ridiculously grindy to open or just didn't open at all (unfortunately can't upload videos to this review). Again, Finesse fixed this. What took the longest amount of time was the quality of the glass. We had the front bedroom replaced 3 times. The first because it had a really glaring obviously roller pattern (see photo). The second because there were scratches on the inside of the glass. The third because there were chips on the inside of the glass (see photo). Finesse eventually brought out the window company who explained there's nothing they can do about the roller pattern. Overall, each of our interactions with Finesse were friendly and productive but we constantly felt like it was our responsibility to check they were doing their work properly. We had to remind them several times to completely finish each window including adding window caps, silicone sealant and providing keys. What I think has happened is that Finesse (who don't employ their fitters they subcontract work out), have become so popular they're subcontracting people who generally couldn't care less. Whilst still not perfect, we've accepted our windows because we don't want to drag it on any longer. [Future addition]: As highlighted and mentioned in Finesse's reply, this was NOT the final state the work was left in BUT it fully well might've been had I not been the type to complain or minded climbing up a ladder to inspect.

Really pleased with finesse windows. We had a porch, front door and all front windows supplied and fitted. Bob the salesman was knowledgeable and not pushy. He provided the quote in next to no time and was there to demonstrate and answer any questions we had. Lindsey then took over our account, she was there to tell us what the next step would be and again to answer any questions we had.
