Conservatory Refurbishments - Frequently Asked Questions

Over the last few years we have seen an uplift in our customers who have conservatories requesting us to look at how they can upgrade to make their space more energy efficient and useable all year round. Conservatories can typically last for approximately 25-35 years if supplied and installed correctly and are cleaned and maintained.

Q. Can you refurbish any old Conservatory?

In short yes, However there will come a stage whereby you may be better starting afresh. From changing or upgrading glazing units to improve energy efficiency, through to a full replacement of the roof or a remodel of your Conservatory by adding bi-fold doors, it really comes down to your budget and the current condition and build quality of your Upvc conservatory*.

You also have our 10 year guarantee for that additional peace of mind.

*We are unable to replace locks or hinges to opening sashes on conservatoires we haven't supplied.

Do you need planning permission to put a solid roof on your Conservatory?

Planning permission is not required to retrofit a solid roof on an existing conservatory. However, always ensure your conservatory framework and foundations are structurally sound and can withstand the additional weight of a solid roof. (Do we check this for customer?) You may still need building regulation approval to ensure that the bearing load is strong enough to cope.

Q. Will adding a solid roof to my conservatory add value?

A conservatory with a retrofitted solid, or tiled roof can add additional value to your home as it transforms your room into useable space all year round.

Q. How can I ensure that my new conservatory roof is safe and efficient?

In simple terms, ensure you use a conservatory specialist like Finesse Windows with over 40 years of proven service and quality. Our team will ensure that all the correct regulations and permissions are adhered to.

Q.  Do you need planning permission for repairing a conservatory is you live in a conservation area?

Unless you live in either a listed building or your home is subject to an Article 4 direction then it is unlikely that you will need to obtain planning permission
