Fox Hollies School – walking path

Creation of a daily walking path through wooded area which gives students with physical & intellectual disabilities the opportunity to meet their movement needs in a independent and safe manner (currently this can only be achieved by walking groups crossing a main road on a dangerous junction). This should allow students to access this more frequently, more safely and more independently. We have received a quote for this work of £10,750. The path partially exists but the project is to link up two existing paths.

We are a small SLD school and our physical environment is constrained by the contours of the site and the main road (A435) limiting our outdoor space. The number on roll have increased from 75 when the building was built 15 years ago, to a current roll of over 100 students. In addition, the nature of our school population means that we have a greater number of students, particularly those with autism, who are fully physically able but with sensory movement needs.

Provision of this facility would allow targeted groups of students access to a daily walk, with lower levels of supervision to promote greater independence; our overall aim is to improve students’ wellbeing by meeting their movement needs more fully.“
