So 5 things to look for to help you identify the signs if your windows may need replacing:
1. Windows are worn out or decaying – One of the clearest signs that you need to replace your windows are decaying window frames. Poor quality UPVC windows may discolour after time, and wooden window frames which are exposed to moisture will slowly begin to decay.
You may also notice that you have windows that are leaking, this might not be a lot of water leakage but remember that moisture brings mold regardless of how much or little water leakage there is. The most common reason for leaking windows is poor installation or a failed sealed unit. In most cases by simply repairing the window you are not fully addressing the problem, the only true fix for a leaking windows is to replace them.
2. Higher Energy Bills
Do you feel a draft even when your window is closed? There are lots of possible reasons for this, from poor installation, and broken locking mechanism right through to faulty seals. It is estimated that draughty windows can increase your energy bills by up to 25%, and more in some cases. It might seem like your energy bills increase each month, it could be that your windows are simply not working as they should, simply by replacing your windows with energy-efficient replacement windows can help reduce your heating costs.
3. Window Openings
Opening and closing your windows should not be a chore, well fitted windows should open and close effortlessly. The main cause of problems when your windows are difficult to open, close or lock is normally down to poor manufacture or installation. UPVC windows are designed to expand in hot weather, and when they cool to return to their original size and shape integrity. However over time this may not completely happen and will cause the window to no longer fit the aperture; frame integrity is why our windows are manufactured with additional internal chambers and steel reinforcement to help reduce this problem. Also in some cases your foundations may have shifted over time which means the window frame is no longer fitting the space properly.
4. Noise Pollution
If your windows provide little protection from the sounds of the outdoors they may be sealed incorrectly or were poorly manufactured in the first place. Modern windows are designed to reduce sound transfer which can make a huge difference to your quality of life if you live near a busy road.
We offer the Shield Glass range as an upgrade on our standard Elegance Windows range. Shield Glass can not only protect your family and home from 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, but can also provide a further 20% reduction in decibels levels when compared to a standard A-rated double glazed sealed unit.
5. Condensation
Firstly not all condensation is bad, however if you have noticed that your windows are frosting between the layers of glass, it means that your seals have failed, allowing moisture between the glass panes. Once the seals fail, any insulating gas used to make the window energy efficient is now gone and simply the only course of action is to replace the glass or the Window itself.
