5 Tips on how to Revitalize your Home – Part 1

“When your home is filled with clutter, you may be thwarted in your attempts to improve your relationships or professional pursuits”, Joey Yap, 2008.

According to the Chinese art of Feng Shui, your home feeds your energy and creating a well-balanced, clutter-free surrounding can improve your attitude to life and develop your relationships.

We’ve put together some tips on how to bring your home to life and improve its vivacity this summer
– Part 1.

Clear the clutter

If it hasn’t been used in over a month, get rid of it. Clutter is easily built up but many find it so hard to get rid of. Schedule in a day where the whole family can join in and sort through what’s not needed. Make three piles of ‘throw out’, ‘charity’, ‘maybe’ and ‘keep’.

Air and light

A good circulation of air and light are two essential elements to gain great energy. Open up the Windows and let the fresh air flow through your home. Open up the blinds and let the natural light shine through. Avoid switching on artificial lights in the summer, save money on energy and enjoy the natural rays.

Personalise your home

Once all the clutter has been removed, you’ll have room to personalise your home with accessories. Add some finishing touches such as family pictures, paintings and cushions. This will add colour and warmth to every room.

Enhance the mood

Candles are a great way to create a tranquil atmosphere, they help the mind, body and spirit. It has been proven that negative emotions and moods can be lifted due to various scents and fragranced candles.

Nothing better than a fresh coat of paint

Sometimes all you need to do is splash some colour onto the walls. “Paint is one of the easiest and cheapest things you can do to freshen up your home”, Coldwell Banker. Avoid loud/vigorously bright colours that can clash with other accessories in your home. The most appealing shades are neutrals and yellow-based tones such as medium brown, taupe or off-white. You can always brighten up your home with fresh flowers and family photos.
