Replacement Windows
Replacement Windows are usually new windows that are mounted within the existing wooden frame. Most commonly they are constructed without a structural frame and therefore rely on the strength of the original window frame for support. The main reason that new replacement windows are needed is usually that the existing windows have deteriorated and become non functional, often resulting in drafts or windows that stick. Replacing the windows can result in increased energy efficiency and reduce the amount of noise that enters the house threw the window.
At the start of the nineteenth century wooden widows were used, however by the end of the 1960 they were less common although they are still used on some new builds today. Steel and aluminium casements along with steel vertical operators were extensively used throughout the nineteen fifties to the nineteen sixties, with the era of the aluminium window spanning from the nineteen sixties to the present day. Still later, in the nineteen seventies vinyl windows were used with there use spanning untill modern day. In more recent time we have also seen the introduction of fibreglass and vinyl-wood-polymer windows.
